Information for Referring Doctors

Dr Stanford is predominantly seeing patients with skin cancer. He can provide prompt assessment and treatment of biopsy proven skin cancers or suspicious lesions. Please ensure that histopathology results and ideally a photo of the lesion pre-biopsy or biopsy site are sent with the referral.
Patients who may require
Mohs Surgery
Patients will have a consultation with Dr Stanford in our Kiama rooms, and if Mohs is the most suitable treatment, the procedure will be booked to be performed at Wollongong Day Surgery.
If a patient is referred
for a Skin Check
If a patient is referred for a skin check, they will be offered an appointment with one of our highly skilled GPs with a Special Interest in skin. The GPSI will always write a letter to the patient’s regular GP and copy them into any test results. The GPSIs can expedite a consultation with Dr Stanford for a second opinion or surgical treatment when required.
Patients with a medical dermatology condition
To provide more timely access for skin cancer treatment, Dr Stanford has contracted the medical dermatology scope of the practice. There is a limited service via our supervised Registrar Clinic operating 2 days per fortnight. Patients will initially be seen by an accredited Dermatology Registrar and then with Dr Stanford. Patients are triaged to best help local patients likely to need phototherapy or specialized systemic agents including oral retinoids, immunosuppressive and biologic therapies. Patients with severe or treatment resistant acne, eczema and psoriasis would all be suitable.
How to Refer
All referrals are assessed and triaged prior to appointments being made. The patient will be phoned by our staff within a few business days to arrange an appointment.
