Patient Information

Dr Stanford is predominantly seeing patients with skin cancer. He can provide prompt assessment and treatment of biopsy proven skin cancers or suspicious lesions. Skin checks are performed by our highly skilled GPs with a Special Interest in skin. The GPSIs can expedite a consultation with Dr Stanford for a second opinion or surgical treatment when required. Please note, Dr Stanford no longer provides routine skin checks.

To provide more timely access for skin cancer treatment, Dr Stanford has reduced the medical dermatology scope of the practice. There is a limited service via our supervised Registrar Clinic operating 2 days per fortnight. Patients are selected to best help local patients likely to need phototherapy or specialized medications. If we are unable to offer you an appointment, we will contact you so that you are able to find an alternative provider.

FAQs

A valid referral is required to see Dr Stanford to receive a Medicare rebate. Our skin check service provided by our GPSIs (General Practitioner with a Special Interest) does not require a referral. Patients referred to the practice for a skin check will be offered an appointment with one of our GPSIs who will correspond with the referring GP.

With our Dermatologist – A referral must be forwarded to admin@southcoastdermatology.com.au for triaging prior to an appointment being made with our Dermatologist. Our reception team will contact you, within a few days of receiving the referral, to make an appointment or inform you if we are unable to accommodate the referral.

With a General Practitioner with a Special Interest – Please phone the practice on 42322011 to make an appointment with one of our General Practitioners for a skin check. Please note, our Dermatologist is unable to offer routine general skin checks.

Please bring your Medicare card, private health fund card and pension or health care card with you to your appointment. Please also bring a list of any medications you currently take. If you are having a skin check or have a skin condition affecting your face, we ask that you do not wear make-up so that we can accurately assess your skin.

Whilst biopsies and some brief procedures may be performed at your consultation, a quote and suitable appointment will be made for any necessary future procedures.

We require at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment, so that your appointment can be offered to another patient on our wait list.
Cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment time, or not attended, will incur a $100 fee that is payable prior to issuing any further appointments at the practice. On occasion, this will be waived if a medical certificate is provided.

We are a private billing practice and do not bulk bill. We do provide a discounted rate to means-tested government concession card holders. The discount does not apply to Commonwealth Seniors Health Cards.

Our reception team will submit your Medicare claim for processing. These rebates will be paid by Medicare into your elected bank account usually within 48 hours. To limit any changes with Medicare item numbers and claims, we may need to hold your claim for approximately 1 week whilst we wait for your treating doctor to crosscheck with your pathology results.

The cost of consultations and procedures conducted in our Kiama rooms are not covered by private health funds. Medicare rebates are claimable on most of these. Procedures done by Dr Stanford at Wollongong Day Surgery should be covered by private health funds.

There is limited patient parking on-site at the rear of our practice. We have a disabled parking place allowing wheelchair access outside our main entrance. There is also unrestricted street parking on Eddy Street.
